چکیده

Impairments in daily functioning characterize both autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. Research has shown that a subsample of schizophrenia patients presents autistic symptoms, leading to the hypothesis their co-occurrence would be associated with ‘double dose’ deficit. A growing body research examined this by looking at joint effect positive psychotic yielded contrasting results, ranging from benefits adverse effects. We hypothesized interactive symptoms on might depend patients' symptom severity. In 170 patients, two-step cluster analysis identified two groups different levels Using general linear models, we interactions groups, functioning. Co-Occurring Alcohol Use Disorder and Schizophrenia

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is the most common co-occurring disorder in people with schizophrenia. Both biological factors and psychosocial factors are thought to contribute to this co-occurrence. Schizophrenia patients with AUD are more likely to have social, legal, and medical problems, compared with other people with schizophrenia. AUD also complicates the course and treatment of schizophrenia.

Smoking in schizophrenia: diagnostic specificity, symptom correlates, and illness severity.

BACKGROUND Cigarette smoking was consistently found to be more prevalent in individuals with schizophrenia than in other psychiatric groups and the general population. These findings have been interpreted as evidence of a specific association between schizophrenia and smoking. However, the supporting data come primarily from cross-sectional studies, which are susceptible to confounding. Our aim...

Subthreshold depression based on functional impairment better defined by symptom severity than by number of DSM-IV symptoms.

BACKGROUND Depression with fewer symptoms than required for a DSM-IV diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) has consistently been found to be associated with functional impairment. In this study, we aim to define clinically significant depression below the DSM-IV threshold for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by means of functional impairment. METHODS Data used are from 2157 respondents ...

Deficient attentional modulation of startle eyeblink is associated with symptom severity in the schizophrenia spectrum.

Patients with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders show deficient prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle eyeblink reflex which is thought to reflect an early stage of information processing called automatic sensorimotor gating. They also exhibit deficient attentional modulation of PPI and prepulse facilitation (PPF) of startle which is thought to reflect deficient early and later controlled atten...

Anticipated discrimination is related to symptom severity, functionality and quality of life in schizophrenia.

The aim of this study is to evaluate a possible relationship between the level of anticipated discrimination with severity of symptoms and functionality. We included 103 patients with schizophrenia. Severity of symptoms was measured by PANSS and Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia. Quality of life (QL) and functionality were measured by using QLS, PSP and Functional Remission of General ...
